Destination
Weddings
When
efficiency meets romance, you've got the makings of a destination wedding.
A destination wedding is when you combine the honeymoon and the wedding
ceremony in an exotic setting. It allows you to plan a special ceremony
without the long and arduous process of details, details, details. Many
of our destination weddings allow us to prepare all legal documents and
special arrangements prior to your arrival so that when you get there, all
you do is enjoy the moment. Talk about hassle free.
Your destination wedding can be as lavish as a ceremony aboard a yacht with
family and friends or it can be as simple as just the two of you exchanging
vows on a quiet beach on some enchanted island. We have planned destination
weddings for two and for two hundred.
Sound
expensive? When you consider the cost of putting on a wedding locally, you
would be surprised that sometimes, a destination wedding is more cost effective
than the more traditional wedding arrangements. Some resorts include the
wedding in the honeymoon.
Let us take care of the tedious details. You simply enjoy each other.
TURTLE ISLAND WEDDING, FIJI
Imagine
celebrating that special day in an exotic tropical setting; meeting your
loved one on a white, sandy beach with a warm breeze stirring the air. On
Turtle, weddings are special events, and some of our guests' fondest memories
are of the delightful Fijian wedding ceremonies held at sunset on the shores
of the famous Blue Lagoon.
The bride and groom dress in traditional Fijian wedding attire made especially
for them by the Turtle Island staff members. The cloth is tapa, made from
tree bark and hand-painted with traditional Fijian symbols in tan, brown
and black. All of the guests, along with the bride and groom, wear garlands
of fresh, fragrant flowers around their necks.
The
trumpeting of conch shells announce the bride's arrival on the wedding raft.
Drums beat ceremonial rhythms as the bride disembarks and is escorted to
her groom by two Fijian attendants. As they approach the archway of the
outdoor altar, they are heralded by a robed Fijian choir.
After the ceremony, the newlyweds are carried on a throne to the wedding
lovo, or feast, typically consisting of roast pig, fresh seafood and other
local delicacies. No wedding is complete without a cake, so our staff bakes
and decorates a traditional, tiered confection worthy of the most sophisticated
gathering. Then, under the soft glow of lantern light guests and staff alike
raise their glasses in a toast to the happy couple before they retire to
their honeymoon bure.
Turtle weddings aren't just for newlyweds. They're also a lovely way to
renew vows. Our staff will make all the preparations, from the wedding clothes
to the wedding feast.
Catholic
and Methodist clergy are available from neighboring island missions, along
with a Fijian choir to sing their traditional selections and you own wedding
favorites. Our staff members and guests are also delighted to participate
in such a joyous event.
To assure that everything proceeds smoothly, plan to arrive in Nadi on a
weekday, at least three days before your wedding day. This allows time to
obtain your license before coming to Turtle, time to get acquainted with
staff members and fellow guests, for the feast to be planned and wedding
garments prepared.
